Common plumbing issues & quick fixes

Plumbing problems can range from minor annoyances to major emergencies. Before scheduling a service call, try these troubleshooting steps to see if you can resolve the issue yourself.

1. Check for clogged drains. If your sink or shower is draining slowly, it might be due to a clog. Try using a plunger or a drain snake to clear the blockage. (Stuck? See our drain cleaning page.)

2. Inspect for leaks. Leaky faucets or pipes can waste water and increase your utility bills. Check under sinks and around fixtures. Tightening connections or replacing worn-out washers can often fix minor leaks.

3. Test your water pressure. Low water pressure can be caused by mineral buildup. Remove the aerator or showerhead and soak it in vinegar to dissolve the buildup.

4. Check your water heater. If you’re experiencing cold showers, your water heater might be the culprit. If the heater is old or malfunctioning, it might need professional attention.

5. Clear your garbage disposal. If your disposal is jammed, first turn off the power. Then use an Allen wrench to manually turn the disposal’s blades and dislodge any obstructions. (Still stuck or leaking? See our garbage disposal page.)

6. Inspect your toilet. A running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water. Check the flapper valve and the fill valve inside the tank.

7. Look for sewer line issues. If multiple drains are clogged or you notice a foul smell, you might have a sewer line problem. This is a job for a professional plumber.

What can Franklin help with?

This isn’t exhaustive, but a few of the plumbing things we handle:

1. Toilet repair / replacement. Leaky, wobbly, running, or old toilet? We’ll repair or replace it.

2. Water heater repair / replacement. Leaking, noisy, or not heating? We diagnose, repair, or install reliable new units.

3. Water heater flush / maintenance. Routine flushing to remove sediment and extend lifespan.

4. Tankless water heater repair / installation. Endless hot water and lower energy bills.

5. Garbage disposal repair / installation.

6. Faucet repair / installation.

7. Bathtub / shower repair & installation.

8. Water leak repair. In walls, ceilings, slabs, or foundation.

9. Burst pipe & frozen pipe repair. Rapid response to thaw, repair, and minimize water damage from frozen or burst pipes.

10. Sump pump repair & installation. Keeping basements and crawlspaces dry through spring storms and heavy rain.

11. Outside faucet / hydrant repair.

12. Drain unclogging & cleaning. Even the most stubborn clogs — mainline, kitchen, bath, shower, sewer.

13. Sewer line repair & camera inspection. State-of-the-art waterproof cameras to find blockages, cracks, or damage.

14. Gas line repair & installation. Licensed gas line work for furnaces, water heaters, ranges, and outdoor connections.

15. Water filtration & softeners. Whole-home filters and softeners installed.

16. Pressure-reducing valve (PRV) installation. If your incoming water pressure is too high, a PRV protects fixtures, appliances, and supply lines from premature wear and burst risk. We test your home’s pressure, install or replace the PRV, and dial it in to a safe set point.

FAQ

Common plumbing questions.

How long until you can come out?
Same-day or next-day service is the norm in Northwest Arkansas. If it's an emergency, we'll route an on-call technician to you the same day, including evenings and Saturdays. Book online or call (479) 282-0003 and we'll give you the soonest available window before you hang up.
What does a typical plumbing repair cost?
It depends on the work. Garbage disposal repairs start at $149.86. Stop installs are $149.88. Sink basket strainer replacements are $178.80. Hooking up a dishwasher starts at $279.86. Water leak repairs start at $294.92, and frost-resistant hydrant installs start at $397.88. Pricing includes parts and labor; sales tax not included, and rates can shift over time, so your plumber will quote the exact flat-rate price on-site before any work begins.
Do you charge by the hour or flat rate?
Flat rate, always. The price you approve is the price you pay — even if the job takes longer than expected. No clock-watching, no “shop time” fees, no nickel-and-diming. If something unexpected comes up mid-job, we stop and re-quote before continuing.
Are your technicians licensed and insured?
Yes. Every Franklin technician works under our Arkansas state licensing, and we're fully insured (general liability + workers' comp). Our team is also background-checked and drug-tested. Email us if you'd like proof of license and insurance.
Do you guarantee the work?
Yes — every job is backed by the Franklin Service Guarantee. If something we repaired or installed isn't right, we'll come back and make it right at no charge.
What happens if you can't fix it on the first visit?
Most repairs are made on the spot, but if a repair needs a specific part from the factory, we will order it and come back to install it ASAP.
What is the $29 service call?
It's our diagnostic visit. A licensed technician comes out, figures out what's actually going on, and gives you an all-in flat-rate price for the repair before any work starts. If you decide not to move forward, you only owe the $29 — no pressure, no penalty. Replacement quotes (water heaters, AC systems, panels, etc.) are always free.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We've teamed up with Wells Fargo to offer financing on home repairs over $500, upon credit approval. See our financing page for current promotions, or ask your technician for options before approving the quote.
Do you offer services other than this?
Yes — Franklin handles HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. Same crew, same $29 service call, same flat-rate guarantee.
