The sales pitch for a career in HVAC

01

You can earn great pay in a relatively short period of time

Being an HVAC technician is a demanding job and requires grit, intelligence, and industry knowledge. There aren't a ton of people out there with those traits. On the other hand, there is a huge demand for good technicians. Supply and demand works its magic and voilà, you have HVAC technicians making $60-80k a year.

02

HVAC is as "recession proof" as any industry out there

When times get tough, people give up luxuries. They stop buying new cars, they buy store brands rather than name brands, and they don't drive as much. You know what luxury they don't give up? Air conditioning.

03

You make people happy for a living

You haven't seen a happy person until you've seen a person whose AC is working again. As an HVAC technician, you get to save the day for hundreds of people a year.

04

You get the satisfaction of working with your hands

Using your mind is great (and you get the opportunity to do that), but there's something about using your own hands to solve problems that is satisfying. Every day you can look back at what you have done and feel pride knowing your own hands did it.

05

Good HVAC technicians have unbelievable job security

If you're a good HVAC technician, you will never be out of a job. The demand is simply too high and the supply too small. In addition, HVAC technicians are needed all across the world, so wherever you move, you'll be able to find work.

06

There are huge opportunities for career growth in HVAC

Just because you start as a technician doesn't mean you have to end your career as one. HVAC is an enormous field and there are many career routes you can take. At Franklin alone, there are management roles, sales roles, and back office roles. Outside of Franklin, there are jobs like manufacturer technical support, territory management, and controls engineering. Last but not least, you could take the skills you've acquired and start your very own business.

Meet the team

If you were to sit in front of me and ask me to sell you on coming to work at Franklin, this is what I would say:

1. We are one of the few remaining HVAC contractors of any size in Northwest Arkansas that is still family-owned and we do not intend for that to change anytime soon. Decisions are made by people who work in the business every day, not by executives at a finance company in some far-flung state.

2. We are focused on taking care of our customers, not extracting every last penny out of them. Obviously, we need to make money, but the focus is on what's best for the customer, not what's best for Franklin. If we take care of our customers, our customers will take care of us.

3. High-performers are well compensated at Franklin. We spend a lot of time and effort on increasing efficiency, and high-performers share in those gains, as they should.

4. We work hard, but we play hard too. There’s no getting around it – all of us in HVAC work really hard in the summer. That said, those four months of longer hours pay for a much more relaxed, four day work week the rest of the year. If you like to hunt, fish, work on cars, or travel, Franklin is the company for you.

What I would not say is that Franklin is an easy job.

We pride ourselves on working hard and caring about the little things, and frankly, that comes with a price. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

That said, I think many of the people here feel a tremendous satisfaction that every day they accomplish things that competitors many times larger than us do not, despite having far fewer resources. The people here have grown this company from nothing to one of the largest HVAC contractors in Northwest Arkansas and that's a satisfaction no one can take away.

FAQ

Nope! In fact, most people start out in HVAC as an apprentice and learn as they go. That said, learning in a classroom setting does help, which is why we pay to send our apprentices to a one-week HVAC trade school in Little Rock once they are ready for it.
If you're just starting out in HVAC you'll only need a few basic hand tools. On your first day, we'll go over which ones.
Our office (and warehouse) is in Springdale, off of Thompson. Full address is at the bottom left of this page.
