TL;DR: Need an outlet, switch, or GFCI installed in NWA? Franklin handles single-device swaps and whole-house overhauls — interior outlets, outdoor weatherproof outlets, garage and attic outlets, GFCI/AFCI swaps, USB outlets, smart switches, dimmers, 3-way switches, and 240V circuits. Most outlet adds in NWA run $150–$400 depending on access. For straight installs, our office can quote you over the phone for free — no visit needed; that pricing covers the install only, not diagnostic or repair work.

Outlet types we install in NWA

Some are quick swaps. Some need a new circuit pulled all the way back to the panel. We do all of it.

1. Standard interior outlet add. A new duplex outlet on the same wall or near an existing one. Usually a same-day, $150–$250 install if there’s easy access through the attic or crawlspace.

2. Outdoor weatherproof outlet. Code requires an in-use (bubble) cover and GFCI protection. Common requests: front porch, back patio, holiday lighting, and pool/spa areas.

3. Garage outlet. Code now requires GFCI protection in garages and a dedicated circuit for refrigerators or freezers in unfinished spaces.

4. Attic outlet. Useful for attic fans, antennas, or holiday-light controllers. Quick install if there’s a junction nearby.

5. GFCI swap. Replacing a regular outlet in a kitchen, bathroom, garage, basement, laundry, or outdoor location with a GFCI device. Required by code in those areas.

6. AFCI swap. Replacing a regular outlet or breaker with an AFCI device. Required by code in bedrooms and most living spaces.

7. USB outlet. Outlet with built-in USB-A or USB-C charging. Popular near nightstands, kitchens, and home offices.

8. Smart outlet. Wi-Fi or Z-Wave outlets that integrate with Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit.

9. Tamper-resistant outlet. Code-required for new construction; recommended in homes with small kids.

10. 240V outlets. For electric dryers, ranges, hot tubs, welders, and EV chargers. Requires a dedicated circuit and the right breaker size.

11. Coax / Ethernet / data jacks. Cable, satellite, and structured-wiring jacks for TVs and home offices.

Switch types we install

Most switch work happens during a remodel or because something broke. Common installs:

1. Standard switch replacement. Worn, scorched, or buzzing switch swapped for a new one.

2. Dimmer switch. Compatible with LEDs (look for “LED-compatible” on the package — older dimmers buzz with modern LEDs).

3. 3-way and 4-way switches. Hallway, stairwell, or large-room lighting controlled from multiple locations.

4. Smart switch. Wi-Fi switches that integrate with Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit. Often need a neutral wire in the box, which older homes may not have.

5. Motion-activated switch. For pantries, closets, and laundry rooms.

6. Ceiling fan switch. Dual-control switches for fan + light combos.

7. Bathroom fan timer. Run-on timer that helps actually clear bathroom humidity.

What outlet and switch work costs in NWA

Same-wall outlet add: $150–$250

Outdoor weatherproof outlet: $200–$350

Garage or attic outlet: $200–$350

GFCI / AFCI swap: $80–$150 per device, less per device when doing several at once

USB or smart outlet: $100–$200 per device, plus device cost if we’re supplying it

240V dryer / range / EV-charger outlet: $400–$1,200 depending on panel distance and circuit ampacity

Whole-room outlet/switch overhaul: Quoted as a single project at a lower per-device rate

If your existing panel is full and there’s no room for another circuit, you may need a panel upgrade first. We’ll evaluate both at the service call.

2026 Update: Changing my review to 3 stars based on most recent experience. Pros: Franklin is highly communicative and arrived on time. The tech they sent was nice. Cons: I found the actual work to be lacking this time. I scheduled an HVAC tune up. The tech found several things that needed to be fixed (including a couple of bad capacitors) and recommended a chemical clean because my husky had gotten dog hair on the condenser unit. I saw the pictures and am not contesting the fact that it was clearly quite dirty. But they basically put things back together, showed me the pictures, gave me a quote, and charged me $75. $75... for what? They tested the capacitors, and took photos, but they didn't actual clean or maintenance anything. They didn't even try hosing it down, which is meant to be part of their service. A service call is only $29 online, so I'm unclear what they actually charged me for. I had another company come out and they beat Franklin's quote by 50%. The second company cleaned the unit as part of their regular tune up- no chemical clean required. Disappointing, won't be using Franklin again. 2025: Our technician Devin was quick, professional, and did a great job of explaining what he found in a way that was easy to understand. He wore shoe covers while in the house, always knocked before entering, and was very respectful.

I’ve been in the area for 20+ years and used a few service companies during that time frame. Franklin Heating & Air is my favorite area HVAC co so far. They are typically on time, honest, courteous and knowledgeable. I was ready to leave this Review with “I trust their judgment” though day after service call I will add this caveat: “it depends on who is sent out”. Unfortunately I now have to say that Kyle and Dimitrios misdiagnosed the problem and cost me an additional $45 to have propane people come out for 5 minutes to “put a meter on” my register (something I believe HVAC should be able to do) only to find all was well there. Surely a simple meter test by HVAC could determine if propane service was in fact needed. Not happy about that. April 2026 Axell Morris serviced my unit today, adding refrigerant as is typically needed for my older A/C. Axell was very knowledgeable and I appreciated his honesty and integrity. I’m requesting a quote on a new unit. The company is trustworthy and I will continue to call upon Franklin HVAC and Axell.

Ayden Kubiak was very knowledgeable about the fact we needed to get a new toilet. He went over the cheapest to the more expensive options. He even checked to water pressure before he left the house.

Lee was both professional and friendly. I appreciate his thoroughness.

Mickey found a problem with one of our AC units when doing the Spring check up last week. He came today and repaired the problem. He was quick and arrived within the scheduled window. We appreciate this service because it will reduce the chances we can need repairs during the hot summer months. Highly recommend Franklin!!!

FAQ

Common outlet & switch questions.

How much does it cost to add an outlet?
Most outlet adds in NWA run $150–$400 depending on access. A new outlet on the same wall as an existing one is usually $150–$200. An outdoor weatherproof outlet, an attic or garage outlet, or running a new dedicated circuit to a panel pushes that higher. Whole-room outlet overhauls or adding multiple outlets at once are quoted as a single project at a lower per-outlet rate.
Where does GFCI protection have to go?
Modern code requires GFCI protection in kitchens (counters), bathrooms, garages, unfinished basements, laundry areas, and any outdoor or wet location. AFCI protection is required in bedrooms and most other living spaces. If you’re swapping outlets in any of those rooms, the replacement must be GFCI or AFCI to bring it up to code — we don’t put a regular outlet back where one isn’t allowed.
Can you install USB or smart outlets?
Yes. USB outlets (with USB-A or USB-C ports built in), smart outlets (Wi-Fi or Z-Wave), tamper-resistant outlets for kid safety, and smart light switches are all common installs. We can swap a single device or do a whole house. If you’ve already bought the outlets, we’ll install them; if you haven’t, we can supply them.
Do you install 240V outlets for dryers, ranges, or EVs?
Yes. We install 240V outlets for electric dryers, electric ranges, ovens, hot tubs, welders, and EV chargers. These require a dedicated circuit run from the panel and the right breaker size for the load. If your panel doesn’t have capacity, that may also require a panel upgrade — we’ll evaluate both at the service call.
